Man arrested for robbing, assaulting his mother at their home in Winters

Ian Asmundson faces felony robbery, battery with great bodily injury and elder abuse charges.

WINTERS, Calif. — A man was arrested for allegedly robbing and assaulting his mother at their shared home in Winters.

According to the Winters Police Department, 36-year-old Ian Asmundson took his mom’s purse from her bedroom while looking for money.

Police say when his mom confronted him about taking the purse, he proceeded to push her, slap her and slam her head against a wall. He also took her cell phone to prevent her from calling 911.

The 71-year-old woman went to an emergency room with scrapes all over her body. She told the medical staff what happened and they contacted the police.

Police officers obtained a search warrant and arrested Asmundson. He was booked into the Yolo County Jail.

Asmundson faces several felony charges including robbery, battery with great bodily injury, and elder abuse. He is also facing misdemeanor charges for preventing his mom from calling 911 and theft of an access card.
