CALAVERAS COUNTY, Calif. — A man was arrested for attempted murder after a shooting at a crowded campground at Lake Camanche.
According to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, it happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday as a deputy was patrolling and heard a gunshot near the Moccasin campgrounds at the south shore.
Upon arrival, the victim told the deputy he got into an argument with 28-year-old Ismael Viveros over a vehicle accident.
The victim told the deputy Viveros said he was going to “kill him” and fired a round toward him and other campers.
Amador County deputies and the California Highway Patrol were called to assist, and Viveros was found near the front gate trying to leave.
He was arrested and taken to the Calaveras County jail where he was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, felony criminal threats and participation in a street gang. He is ineligible for bail.
