YUBA CITY, Calif. — An accused killer is in custody nearly one year after a woman was found dead on the side of the road in Marysville.
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office found 27-year-old Amery Sweany’s body on Simpson Lane on April 27, 2023.
In May 2023, investigators said Sweany was from Chico and new to the Yuba-Sutter area. An autopsy found her cause of death was blunt force trauma and officials believed she was hit by a car.
Now, nearly one year later, the person accused of killing her is in custody.
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office says deputies arrested 39-year-old Ricky Lasher around 8 p.m. Wednesday on Jamie Drive in Yuba City.
He was booked on suspicion of murder. Anyone with information in the case can call the sheriff’s office at 530-749-7777.
