ELVERTA, Calif. — Fire officials say one person was found dead following an incident where a man barricaded himself inside a house that was on fire.
The incident happened on the 2400 block of Covered Wagon Circle near Rio Linda, officials said. A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said it's not clear if the barricaded person was involved in any crime, but did say there was a family dispute that happened.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said they and law enforcement were initially dispatched for a civil disturbance. Arriving fire crews found a smoke-charged home and staged for deputies to de-escalate a person that was barricaded inside.
"Once cleared by Deputies, crews made a push inside to search the home and extinguish the fire. Tragically, a victim was found deceased in a bedroom with an unknown cause of death," the fire district said on Twitter.
The incident remains under investigation.
