FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A judge ordered a mental evaluation of a black man charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of white men randomly targeted on the street of Fresno.
KFSN-TV in Fresno reported Thursday that a judge suspended the criminal case of Kori Ali Muhammad for the doctor's evaluation.
He's charged in total with killing four men, including an unarmed motel security guard days before the April 18 shooting rampage.
Police have said that 39-year-old Muhammad told investigators he wanted to kill as many white people as possible, laughing as he explained his actions.
Prosecutors say that if he's convicted, Muhammad could face life in prison or the death sentence.
Muhammad's attorney Eric Christensen could not be immediately reached to comment on the case.
