CASE HISTORY

Around 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2018, when deputies were called to a disturbance at the Pep Boys on Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova. Investigators say Paris came in complaining about customer service, and it escalated into threats

Deputies Stasyuk and Robertson reportedly arrived and tried to speak with Paris when he ran behind the counter and opened fire. A clerk was shot before Stasyuk was shot in the back.

Stasyuk went into the parking lot and tried to find cover so he could open fire while Paris followed, continuing to shoot at his back. One shot hit him in the back of the head.

A shootout then reportedly occurred between Paris and Robertson in the front of the store. Robertson shot Paris as he started firing down the hallway.

Stasyuk died almost instantly from his injuries. Robertson was struck in the arm but survived. The clerk also survived.

Paris was shot twice and injured. He was reportedly uncooperative even after being shot, refusing to roll over so he could be put into custody.

Stasyuk had been with the department four and a half years. He was also a liaison officer at Abraham Elementary School.
