SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A California man is facing 72 years to life in prison after a deadly 2022 shooting at a Natomas sports bar.
According to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, a jury convicted Toese Asiata of first-degree murder and assault with a semi-automatic firearm.
The charges are the result of a September 2022 shooting at Cheers Sports Bar in Natomas.
Prosecutors say the bar was hosting a pool tournament and was playing music when Nicholas Snead bumped into Asiata while he was dancing. Asiata pulled a .45 caliber handgun from his backpack and shot Snead five times, killing him.
A second person was hit by the gunfire and his wounds required multiple surgeries and physical therapy.
Detectives identified Asiata with the help of witnesses and video surveillance. He was found in Hawaii and extradited back to California for trial.
Asiata faces a sentence of 72 years to life. Sentencing is set for July 12.
