Man stabbed from behind at Modesto park, police say

Officers said it started as a fight between children at a soccer game, turned into a fight between adults and then led to a stabbing.

MODESTO, Calif. — The Modesto Police Department is investigating after a man was stabbed twice after a soccer game at a park.

Police say it started as a report of a fight around 2:30 p.m. at Mancini Park. Upon arrival, they found a man with two non-life-threatening stab wounds.

The stabbing allegedly started as a fight between children during a soccer game at a park and escalated into adults fighting, police said. The fight broke up, and then the person who called police reportedly noticed damage to her vehicle, according to law enforcement.

While they were addressing vehicle damage, the suspect reportedly came back and stabbed the caller’s family member from behind.

The suspect left the scene in a blue Chevrolet truck, and they have not yet been identified, police said.
