Man stabbed while trying to stop fight in North Highlands

The fight happened outside a shopping center on Elkhorn Boulevard in North Highlands.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man, who law enforcement says tried to stop a fight between two people outside a North Highlands shopping center, was hospitalized after being stabbed Friday morning.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says it was reported around 7 a.m.

It happened in the parking lot at the Watt Towne Centre on Elkhorn Boulevard.

The sheriff’s office says an employee of a nearby business confronted a homeless man in the parking lot, trying to get him to leave. It led to a fight and two people nearby stepped in trying to help.

The sheriff’s office says the homeless man stabbed one of the people trying to help at least twice. The stabbing victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

It’s unknown how fight started and if the stabbing happened in self-defense.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says, if you're a business owner or employee, the easiest thing to do is approach a person and ask them to leave. If it escalates, then you should call law enforcement.
