Mandatory evacuations have been issued for a community in Amador County due to another vegetation fire.

Firefighters were called to the scene near Irish Hill Road and Carbondale Road, just north of the town of Ione. According to Cal Fire, residents in the Willow Creek Ranch Estates have been asked to evacuate.

"We saw the smoke earlier this afternoon. I drove down here with my son to a neighbor that's down here and it was on, you could see the flames. So it was bad so we started loading horses at that point," said Patti Fisher-Misuraca who has lived by the area for 19 years.

Just before 8 p.m., fire officials estimated the fire has consumed approximately 840 acres of land and is 40 percent contained. Crews also say they have stopped its forward progress.

It is unclear how many structures are threatened, but so far there have been no reports of any structures being damaged or destroyed. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

"Because this fire was moving so fast we augmented the air resources substantially to make sure we could protect people and homes. However the air attack works in concert with ground crews to make sure they put the fire out," said Brice Bennett. with CAL FIRE.

The American Red Cross set up an evacuation shelter at Ione Junior High School, located at 450 Mill St.
