STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif — A Manteca man was convicted this week of killing a woman in a 2020 shooting near Escalon.
The Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office announced Alfonso Cervantes was convicted of murder and is facing a potential life sentence.
The shooting happened January 19, 2020, when Cervantes offered to give Nicolette Ciabatti a ride. When the vehicle was stopped, Cervantes shot Ciabatti six times.
Cervantes drove to Oakdale and called 911 to confess he was involved with the shooting. He claimed it was in self-defense.
According to the Escalon Police Department, when Ciabatti’s body was found in Modesto, she had two gunshot wounds to the head, three wounds to her back and one wound to her side.
