Fire in Manteca brought under control | Update

Authorities are calling on people to avoid the area.

MANTECA, Calif — A grass fire was brought under control by fire crews in Manteca Monday afternoon.

The Manteca Fire Department said the fire was burning in the area of McKinley and Bronzan. 

Manteca Police Lt. Josh Gutierrez said police notified people on Bronzan about the fire and the possibility of evacuation. The McKinley off ramp was closed with zero visibility. In an update, Gutierrez said the fire was brought under control and there's no need to evacuate.

Multiple buildings were  temporarily threatened by the blaze. Sgt. Gutierrez said there were no occupied buildings threatened, but there were some outbuilding not occupied by people that were threatened.

WILDFIRE PREPS

If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.

The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for local warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
