5 people, 2 pets displaced after fire damages Manteca home

While the cause of the fire is unknown, officials say a fence caught fire, spread to trees and then to the garage.

MANTECA, Calif. — Five people and two pets were displaced Saturday afternoon after a fire destroyed the garage of a Manteca home, officials say.

The Manteca Fire Department says the fire happened in the 500 block of Lode Street around 4 p.m. While the cause of the fire is unknown, officials say a fence caught fire, spread to trees and then to the garage.

The garage was a "total loss," fire crews said. The home was mostly saved, but the damage caused the family of five and two pets to be unable to return. Roads were closed in the area while crews worked but have since been reopened.

No other information is available at this time.
