Local TV host Mark S. Allen has resigned from his position at Good Day Sacramento and CW31. This comes three months after Allen was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Allen, whose legal name is Mark Allen Stell, was allegedly driving erratically near Atlantic Street and I-80 on December 4, 2015. He was arrested for DUI and booked into jail. Stell has a previous DUI arrest from 2006.
He announced his resignation during an appearance on Good Day Sacramento, and an emotional Facebook video posted to his page. It was his first post to social media in three months, and he thanked his fans and supporters, who he said had kind words when they saw him at gas stations or supermarkets.
Stell said he went to rehab, and when he finished in mid-January, he said he left with a feeling of clarity, "it feels great", he said.
"If I can be as good a friend to you as you have been to me, please let me know how and when I'm here for you. And also to my critics, thanks for calling me out on what was an arrogant and stupid act. If I could turn back time and go back to that day in December, I would do things entirely differently," Stell said in his Facebook post.
He pleaded with the audience to seek help if they think they have a drinking problem, saying he didn't think drinking was a problem in his life.
Stell didn't specify where he will be going or what he will be doing next. He said he will be redoubling his efforts to work with anti-drunk driving causes, and that he has "some exciting developments in the future".
