Deputies seek more victims after medical director accused of sexual assault at Carmichael facility

The charge is connected to an April report of sexual assault made by an employee at the River Pointe Post-Acute facility in Carmichael

CARMICHAEL, Calif. — A prominent Sacramento area doctor is now facing sexual assault charges and investigators believe there may be more victims out there.

Dr. Rachandeep Singh was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of felony sexual battery. The charge is connected to an April report of sexual assault made by an employee at the River Pointe Post-Acute facility in Carmichael.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, the employee says he touched her inappropriately.

"Back in April, we received a complaint about a sexual assault that occurred at that medical facility. Our deputies went out and took a report for their findings for sex and elder abuse detectives. From there, they determined there was enough probable cause to take it to the district attorney,” said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The 46-year-old was arrested Saturday at the San Francisco International Airport. Investigators say he wasn't trying to flee but was there to travel somewhere.

Authorities are asking any other victims to come forward because of his position of power.

"We don't know [the possibilities] and that's why we're reaching out to the public and specifically those affected in those facilities that Dr. Singh was a part of, whether they're employees or otherwise,” said Gandhi.

Gandhi says they want to make sure they give victims an opportunity to come forward. They're also working with River Pointe Post-Acute Facility in their investigation.

The facility told ABC10 Monday that Singh has been removed as medical director and they are cooperating with authorities during the investigation.

"We just want to make sure that, if you are a victim, you aren't worried about any repercussions or retaliation. There are laws protecting you as both an individual and as an employee. Obviously, the first victim that came forward showed a lot of courage by doing that. We want to encourage those if, again if they were in fact victims, to bring those allegations forward,” said Gandhi.

Deputies say the doctor was also a medical director overseeing at least two other facilities in Stockton and the San Joaquin County area. Anyone with information can call the sheriff’s office or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers.
