Sacramento's homeless population has risen 12 percent since 2013, according to a report from Sacramento Steps Forward, an agency working to end homelessness in the region.
But two friends from an Oak Park neighborhood are also working to curb those numbers, using art and ingenuity to craft mobile homes for those living on the street.
Aimee Phelps and Kevin Greenberg created the The Art-through-Pod project to help create, build, and decorate lightweight mobile shelters for the homeless in their community.
ABC10 recently followed the duo as they delivered their latest "pod" to a member of the homeless community.
Each pod costs roughly $300 to make and takes about 10-12 hours manufacture. Greenberg and Phelps have set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money for their initiative, which has raised more than $14,000 to date.
