SMARTSVILLE, Calif. — The search for a missing man out of Wheatland came to an end Thursday morning after his body was found near Englebright Dam in Smartsville.
The Nevada County Sheriff's Office said deputies and the search and rescue team led the search for 57-year-old Michael Babb, of Wheatland. A friend of Babb's told authorities that Babb went fishing the morning of Nov. 23.
Eventually, his car was found near Englebright Lake's Narrows Boat Launch and Day Use area around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the sheriff's office. The Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team was activated that day, but the search effort turned into a recovery effort when Babb was found dead near the base of Englebright Dam Thursday morning.
Babb's cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
