MODESTO, Calif. — An employee at a Modesto autism therapy center is facing charges of committing a lewd act upon a child.
According to the Modesto Police Department, 35-year-old Sean Marquez was arrested Nov. 3.
Police say Marquez is an employee at the Kendall Center, which offers behavioral and language therapy for children with autism. The Kendall Center told ABC10 his employment was terminated once they were made aware of the incident.
Police say the victim in this case is younger than 14 and the alleged crime happened at the Kendall Center.
No further information is available.
Stanislaus County jail records show that Marquez is being held on a $150,000 bond and his next court date is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2024.
“Nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and well-being of the children in our care. As soon as we were made aware of the incident, we took immediate action to ensure everyone’s safety, including contacting local law enforcement and terminating the employee," a Kendall Center spokesperson said in a statement. "We have extensive safety and conduct protocols that we strictly enforce and that each of our employees are trained on and expected to uphold. These established protocols were followed in this instance and our staff was able to quickly intervene. Due to the active investigation, we are unable to provide further details at this time.”
