Three people are now behind bars after removing a 95-year-old woman from a Modesto hospital and trying to take her money, Modesto police said.
Modesto police learned about the incident at 2:45 p.m. Monday when a social worker reported that an elderly woman had been removed from the hospital by the victim's neighbors, against medical advice.
The suspects then drove the victim to the bank and tried to cash a large sum check. The woman did not have the funds for the check so she withdrew $1,000 cash for the suspects.
The victim suffered from heart disease and dementia and was later found by detectives at her southwest Modesto residence after being returned by the suspects, Modesto police said.
Modesto police also said that detectives also learned through the victim's social worker that she didn't possess the decisional capacity to make her own decisions and was under a doctor's immediate care.
The suspects were later identified as Rosemary Bazan, 38, Salyce Bazan, 19 and Manuel Flores, 38. All were arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for kidnapping, conspiracy, elder abuse, possession of completed check with intent to defraud and conspiracy.
