MODESTO, Calif. — Seven people were taken to the hospital after an ammonia leak caused respiratory irritation in Modesto, according to officials.
The Modesto Fire Department says the leak happened at the Paleteria La Michoacana on Lapham Drive around 11:51 a.m. The building was evacuated and multiple people were reporting discomfort from possible chemical exposure.
People were treated at the scene and seven were sent to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown.
Hazard crews responded to the area and eventually stopped the chemical release. No other information is known at this time.
