Man hit by at least 2 vehicles crossing McHenry Ave in Modesto

The collision is the 15th deadly crash in Modesto this year.

MODESTO, Calif. — A man died after being run over by two vehicles while crossing McHenry Avenue in Modesto Sunday night, police said.

The Modesto Police Department said the deadly collision happened around 11 p.m. along the 1200 block of McHenry Avenue. The 31-year-old man was hit mid-block by a southbound vehicle and was hit again by a second approaching vehicle as the first one pulled over, according to police.

Both drivers stayed at the scene, and the man was taken to the hospital where he ultimately died. Neither drugs or alcohol are believed to be a factor in the collision.

Police are investigating whether or not the pedestrian was hit by any other vehicles that were passing by.

"This is the 15th fatal crash in Modesto this year.  As a reminder, please reduce your speed, put down your phones and watch for pedestrians.  Pedestrians need to stay out of the roadway until it is safe and legal to cross," the Modesto Police Department said in a news release. "Be a defensive walker and assume that drivers do not see you.  Let’s work together to make Modesto roadways safer to all who use them."
