CERES, Calif. — A man was taken to the hospital with major injuries after being hit by a car in Ceres Thursday evening, according to police.

The Ceres Police Department says the crash happened on Hatch Road west of Boothe Road around 6:36 p.m. The 35-year-old man was walking eastbound in the eastbound lane of Hatch Road, on the south side of the roadway, when he was hit by a gray Cadillac traveling the same direction as him. The man is still in critical condition in the hospital.

The driver, identified as a 37-year-old man from Ceres, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police.

Hatch Road, between Boothe and just east of Mitchell roads, was closed for multiple hours while officials worked at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing but officials say they don’t suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash. No other information is available at this time.

Anyone with information about the crash are encouraged by police to contact Officer Aaron Pinon at (209) 538-5678 or by email at aaron.pinon@ci.ceres.ca.us.
