Man killed, firefighter injured in Stanislaus County crash

The man driving the SUV was identified as Paul Spani, a fighter with Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District.

STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif — A man is dead and a firefighter is injured after a crash Tuesday in Stanislaus County, according to California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. near Geer Road and Yosemite Boulevard. 

According to CHP, a 32-year-old man driving a Ford sedan didn't stop at a red light and hit the right side of a Ford SUV. The man driving the sedan died at the scene. His identity hasn't been released.

The man driving the SUV was identified as Paul Spani, a firefighter with Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and the fire district said Spani is doing well.

CHP didn't say what caused the crash but said the driver of the sedan wasn't wearing a seatbelt based on the initial investigation. The crash is under investigation.
