2 killed in Modesto single-vehicle crash

Around 1:30 a.m., officers with the Modesto Police Department responded to the crash at the intersection of South Carpenter and West Hatch roads.

MODESTO, Calif. — Police are investigating after two people were found dead at the scene in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Modesto.

Around 1:30 a.m., officers with the Modesto Police Department responded to the crash at the intersection of South Carpenter and West Hatch roads, according to a department news release. Upon arrival, they found the two occupants of the 2008 Honda Accord dead at the scene, the release said.

Police said preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling northbound on South Carpenter Road when it struck an island and signal light pole at the southeast corner of the street’s intersection with West Hatch Road.

The vehicle then collided with the island and signal light pole on the northeast corner, resulting in significant damage and causing fatal injuries to the driver and passenger, police said.
