MODESTO, Calif. — Modesto Mayor Sue Zwahlen took a large lead as the early vote is counted in the mayoral race.
Zwahlen is looking for another four years as the top elected official in Modesto, but two other challengers could shake up those plans.
The race for Modesto mayor includes Sebastian Jones, Dewey Bedford Jr. and of course, Mayor Zwahlen.
Vote updates are expected every one to two hours through election night.
If any of the three candidates gets the majority of votes cast for mayor, then they'll be elected and assume office the first Tuesday after the election of city council members in November.
If no one gets a majority, then the top two candidates will head to a run-off in November's General Election.
