Extra Innings: The Modesto Nuts will play another season at John Thurman Field

A one-year lease agreement will be in place as the city and the Nuts continue negotiations on a long-term agreement.

MODESTO, Calif. — The future of the Modesto Nuts was at the bottom of the ninth, but in the end, the city of Modesto of and the Nuts have pushed talks around their lease agreement into extra innings.

The city and the Nuts reached an agreement on a one-year extension for the team to stay in Modesto while talks on their long-term future continue. Tuesday's unanimous vote approved an amendment to the lease and authorizes the city manager to finalize the deal.

It comes after the city and the Nuts both announced in July that they couldn't reach a deal. Since that time, there were additional conversations that led to the one-year extension to keep the Nuts at John Thurman Field. The new agreement runs through Sept. 30, 2025.

It will also let both sides continue efforts toward a long-term lease. But those conversations still have a deadline. According to city documents, both sides said if a long-term lease isn't finalized by April 1, 2025, then negotiations will end and the Nuts will vacate the site by Oct. 1, 2025.
