Modesto home, 3 backyards burned after fire spreads from alley

Animal control was also asked to help an injured dog.

MODESTO, Calif. — Firefighters were able to keep damage limited to a home, three backyards, a car and a fence line after a fire sparked in south Modesto Sunday.

The Modesto Fire Department said the blaze was reported in the alley behind the 1200 block of Imperial Avenue.

Crews said the fire moved to a fence, three backyards and a house. It was then upgraded to a working structure fire and a second-alarm response response due to the risk of three homes catching fire and the extreme heat.

Eventually, the fire was doused and limited to a home, three backyards, a car and the fence line in the alley.

No firefighters were hurt and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Animal control was also asked to help an injured dog.
