Police respond to reports of shooting near high school in Modesto

According to police, there are no reports of injuries.

MODESTO, Calif. — Law enforcement officials in Modesto responded to reports of a shooting near the campus of Elliott Alternative Education Center Thursday afternoon, a Modesto Police Department Watch Commander said.

According to police, there were no reports of injuries and a shooter was not immediately arrested. Officers are still at the scene near Sunrise and Orangeburg Avenues, investigating the shooting.

The reports of gunfire prompted officials to briefly lock down Downey High School, Elliott Alternative Education Center and Muir Elementary School, a spokesperson for Modesto City Schools said in a statement.

"Modesto Police have since lifted the lockdown and are in the area investigating," the statement said. "There are no reports of injuries at this time."
