Scooter rider hit and killed by vehicle in Modesto

The Modesto Police Department said a vehicle and a mobility scooter were traveling westbound on Briggsmore Avenue when the crash happened.

MODESTO, Calif. — A rider on a mobility scooter was hit and killed by a vehicle Wednesday in Modesto.

The Modesto Police Department said officers responded to the crash before 5 p.m. on East Briggsmore Avenue, east of Coffee Road. 

Police said both the vehicle and the scooter rider were going westbound on Briggsmore Avenue when the crash happened. The crash prompted road closures and traffic delays on Briggsmore Avenue. 

Life-saving efforts were performed on the rider of the scooter, but they were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with officers.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
