Wife grieves after husband crushed at Modesto Del Monte plant

A Hilmar woman is grieving after her husband was killed while working at Del Monte Foods on Yosemite Boulevard in Modesto on Wednesday.

A Hilmar woman is grieving after her husband was killed while working at Del Monte Foods on Yosemite Boulevard in Modesto on Wednesday.

Amanda Rafferty said her husband Dave Rafferty was a welder and mechanic for J.M. Equipment Co. Inc. and sent out to Del Monte Foods to fix a dock.

After not hearing from her husband for several hours she went to the Del Monte plant to find out he was killed.

"I went out there and kept asking for him and she kept saying there's been an accident and finally they said he didn't make it," says Amanda.

According to Stanislaus County Corner's office, Dave died of a crush and injury to his chest and was found underneath the loading dock.

Amanda says she wants to know why her husband could've been killed on the job.

J.M Equipment Company said this is an ongoing investigation and wouldn't comment.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rafferty family,” Del Monte Foods wrote in a statement. “We are continuing to work with local authorities regarding this incident."

Amanda describes her husband as selfless, caring, and an amazing father to their two year old daughter. She decided not to have a funeral but a celebration of life for her late husband.
