More weekend road work along I-5 in Natomas to impact lanes, ramps in Sacramento

You'll see delays between downtown and the Sacramento International Airport.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — More lane and connector closings are on tap this weekend (Friday, Aug. 16 to Monday, Aug. 19) that could impact traffic from the downtown Sacramento area into Natomas.

Here are the closings:

North and southbound I-5 at the I-80 interchange will be reduced to two lanes from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. It's possible this area could get down to one lane between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m.

The southbound I-5 to eastbound I-80 connector will be closed each night this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, and 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Here are the detours from Caltrans:

From southbound I-5: Take westbound I-80 connector ramp from southbound I-5. Stay in the right lane and exit I-80 at West El Camino Avenue (Exit 85). Make a left onto West El Camino Avenue, stay to the right and enter the loop onramp to eastbound I-80 and continue to southbound I-5.

Caltrans says people flying out of the Sacramento International Airport or working there should leave at least 40 minutes ahead of schedule during this period.

According to Caltrans' Dennis Keaton, as long as everything goes according to plan this weekend, it should be the final weekend of 55-hour closings in this project area.
