2 injured after vehicle takes 1,000 foot plunge off cliff in Placer County

A vehicle drove off the the roadway at Mosquito Ridge Road and took a 1,000 foot drop down a cliff.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — Two people were injured after their vehicle fell roughly 1,000 feet off a cliff in Placer County.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office said they responded to the area around 7 a.m. after the vehicle dove off Mosquito Ridge Road and down a cliff.

A woman was ejected from the vehicle, but the driver, described as a man, remained inside. The woman was able to head back up to the road and flag down some help before being driven to a local fire station. 

Officials said she had moderate injuries and the man had major injuries. He was found by fire crews, stabilized, and airlifted out to CALSTAR Air Medical Services.

CHP-Auburn is investigating the crash.
