A bright light streaking across the California sky Tuesday night created a bright buzz across social media.
Photos and videos of the light lit up Facebook and Twitter around 6 p.m. and the streak was seen moving through the sky in other states like Nevada and Arizona.
Dr. Krupp from the Griffith Observatory said it might have been a meteor or perhaps space debris, but according to Julie Ziegenhorne with the U.S. Strategic Command, it was likely a Russian rocket booster burning up upon reentry.
Some, comically, speculated it was Santa Claus racing across the sky as he prepared to deliver gifts on Christmas.
