SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Topgolf is coming to the Sacramento area. Councilmember Karina Talamantes announced the details of the latest facility in South Natomas on Monday.
Talamantes made the announcement on X, saying she’s been working on the project for years.
“I’m thrilled to share my enthusiasm that Topgolf is in the early stages of bringing its first Sacramento facility to South Natomas!” Talamantes wrote.
Talamantes said the new TopGolf will be about 58,000 square feet, is projected to create more than 250 new jobs and will generate $15 million in economic growth.
Talamantes started working on bringing Topgolf to South Natomas when she was the Chief of Staff for State Senator Angelique Ashby.
“She has done it! She brought them back to the table and is now delivering Top Golf to Natomas,” Ashby wrote on Facebook.
Ashby said the city was set to welcome Topgolf several years ago but the project was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She said Talamantes worked to bring it back.
Topgolf combines golf with entertainment. Groups can tee off on a driving range with personalized games. It also offers food and drinks. According to Talamantes, the Topgolf in South Natomas will be a two-story venue with 80 bays available.
Once complete, this will be the second Topgolf location in the greater Sacramento after the first opened in Roseville.
The announcement comes as Topgolf reported a decline in sales in the last year.
According to Topgolf Callaway's second-quarter earnings report released last week, sales at existing Topgolf locations are down 8% year over year through June 30 — figures that the company says are "driven by softer-than-expected traffic" as it navigates what it calls "cyclical macro challenges."
No official location for the new Topgolf has been announced. There will be an open house on August 21 for city leaders to field questions about the project.
