NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — An 18-year-old is dead after a car crashed into a tree off Highway 20 in Nevada County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the the 18-year-old man was heading westbound along Highway 20, near South Ponderosa Way, in a 2003 Pontiac Vibe when the car left the roadway, overturned and hit a tree.
It's not clear why the car left the roadway at this time.
The incident was reported by a passerby just before 4 a.m., west of Grass Valley.
First responders arrived to find the man inside the car with head trauma. He was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP said the roadway was wet from recent rain and drug and alcohol use were not immediately suspect. However, the crash remains under investigation.
The man had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according CHP.
