NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — A man, woman and dog were rescued from a blizzard after getting stranded in the Lowell Hill area of Nevada County.
Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue said the report came in around 8:30 p.m. on March 3.
Officials said a 45-year-old man, his girlfriend and dog were stranded after their off-road vehicle's differential broke. The man hiked about a mile to get cellphone service and called 911 for help.
A Nevada Irrigation District (NID) employee was near the area, doing work for the district at the time, and found the man, in rough shape from the weather conditions. The employee used a Sno-Cat to reach the couple, who were eventually rescued and brought to safety with the help of the employee.
The man, woman and dog had been stranded for about 48 hours before being rescued.
Notably, the NID employee was also a member of the Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team.
