Man arrested, accused of starting roadside fires in Nevada County

Investigators say the fires were intentionally set along a 2.5-mile stretch of road in Penn Valley.

NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — A Nevada County man was arrested Monday night after he allegedly set multiple fires on the side of the road in Penn Valley.

According to Cal Fire’s Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit, the 43-year-old was reportedly seen leaving the scene of multiple roadside fires late Monday. The first was reported around 9:40 p.m.

Cal Fire says five fires were set along the road over a 2.5-mile stretch.

The unidentified man was arrested and booked on suspicion of arson. He’s being held until his arraignment.
