SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A 4-year-old lioness named Binti has a new home at the Sacramento Zoo.
Her arrival was announced Friday morning, and the zoo said she's "settling in wonderfully." The other lion, Slamson II, hasn't been introduced to her yet.
Binti is originally from the Detroit Zoo but came to Sacramento as part of a recommendation by the Lion Species Survival Plan, operated by the Association of Aquarium and Zoos.
The previous resident lioness, Cleo, was put down earlier this year after veterinarians discovered her kidneys were failing.
The zoo intends to introduce Binti to Slamson II to continue conservation efforts.
