Divers search for father who jumped into American River to save son near No Hands Bridge

The Placer County Sheriff's Office said the father jumped into the river after he saw his son struggling in the water.

AUBURN, Calif. — A search is underway for a father who went into the American River to save his son but never came back up.

According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to American River near No Hands Bridge for the incident around 11:40 a.m. 

Citing family members, the sheriff's office said the man jumped into the river after seeing his son struggling in the water.

Officials said the child was safely pulled from the water by another person who also jumped in to help, however, the child's father still hasn't been found since he went under the water.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office said dive crews are still scouring the area for him. 

The child was taken to a hospital, but is expected to be OK.
