CALIFORNIA, USA — Northern California is hours away from the start of a big storm system bringing in rain and snow.
One of the biggest concerns is over leaves clogging drains. Both the City of Sacramento and Yolo County are bracing for localized flooding.
Residents in the Pocket neighborhood, like Raymond Feliciana, are doing what the city of Sacramento is calling on everyone to do right now: fill your container first with leaves before making a pile in the street in order to prevent flooding.
The City of Sacramento Public Works Department is doing leaf pick up with "the claw" Monday through Friday and many Saturdays.
Jesa David, with the department, said they also operate on holidays to keep up with the demand and prepare for this storm.
“We do see a lot of localized flooding in the city, and people can help with that by keeping leaves out of the storm drains, containers away from the gutter, branches out of the way,” David said.
Both the city of Sacramento and Yolo County are expecting localized flooding from the upcoming storm.
Kristin Weivoda, the chief of Emergency Services for Yolo County, said she's expecting to see many road closures and debris.
County crews worked to clear culverts and streams of debris along County Road 13 Monday and Tuesday.
“Our ground is going to get saturated really quick, the water is going to rise quickly and if there’s no way to drain it, it’s going to start localized flooding,” Weivoda said.
If you have flooding issues within the City of Sacramento, report it to 311.
The City of Sacramento is expecting the rain to slow down their leaf pick up operations. You can check the calendar on their website for updates.
