SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
The holiday season is set to kick off in Sacramento with the annual Old Sacramento Tree Lighting.
The 60-foot tree is scheduled to be lit Wednesday night. Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. on Front and K Streets. It includes performances by the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus and Sac Dance Lab.
The lighting ceremony will start at 6 p.m. and will be led by Stomper, the Athletics elephant mascot. The A’s are going to play in Sutter Health Park for at least three years, starting next spring.
The lighting ceremony will be followed by a live performance by the Theatre of Lights immediately after.
The event is free, and parking is available at nearby garages.
What is Theatre of Lights?
The opening performance of Theatre of Lights will begin the show’s 16th anniversary in Sacramento. Theatre of Lights is a live production of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” alongside stories of Sacramento pioneers and the city’s history.
Performances are typically done on the balconies of Old Sacramento buildings and last up to 20 minutes.
This year’s show will feature narration by Emmy-nominated voice actor Bill Farmer, who is the voice of the Disney character Goofy.
After Wednesday night’s performance, Theatre of Lights will have shows on Fridays and Saturdays, with two irregular show dates of Monday, Dec. 23, and Tuesday, Dec. 24.
