Crash causes fire, power outage in Calaveras County

Forward progress has stopped on the fire.

RANCHO CALAVERAS, Calif. — Nearly 6,000 people in Calaveras County are without power Friday night, according to PG&E outage maps. 

Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services says a crash in Toyon resulted in the power outage and a 10 acre grass fire in Toyon. Forward progress has stopped on the fire.

California Highway Patrol says Highway 12 is closed between Doubles Springs Road and Toyon Circle with no estimated time of reopening. Caltrans suggests using Double Springs Road as an alternative route.

Rancho Calaveras is mostly impacted by the outage. The outage began around 8:30 p.m. and is expected to be restored around 12:30 a.m., according to PG&E.
