Person dead after being pulled from Modesto duplex fire

Investigators are still trying to figure out where and how the fire started.

MODESTO, Calif. — A Modesto resident is dead after a Tuesday morning house fire.

According to the Modesto Fire Department, it happened around 10 a.m. on the 2000 block of Celeste Drive, and it was initially called in as a smoke check.

Upon arrival, crews found an active fire and they rescued one person, only described as female. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition, but they ultimately died.

So far investigators have not yet said where and how the fire started.
