Person of interest detained after 35-acre grass fire near Mather

Officials said the fire is being investigated to rule out arson.

MATHER, Calif. — A person of interest was detained after a vegetation fire sparked near Mather in Sacramento County Monday evening.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the fire was reported on Jackson and Excelsior roads. It burned around 35 acres, but no structures were threatened during the blaze. Forward progress has been stopped.

One person of interest was detained. Fire officials said the blaze is being investigated to rule out arson.

Jackson Highway is shut down east of Bradshaw, west of Excelsior.
