SUTTER CREEK, Calif. — A Pioneer man who was already in custody for allegedly driving under the influence is now facing arson charges after a fire behind a closed business Wednesday in Sutter Creek.
According to the Sutter Creek Police Department, reports of the fire came in around 11:30 p.m. First responders were able to put it out quickly.
Officials say no one was injured in the fire, but because it was suspicious, they started an arson investigation.
During the investigation, police said they found evidence linking a Pioneer man to the fire.
Police say the man left the scene shortly after setting the fire and then crashed his vehicle. He was arrested by California Highway Patrol on a felony DUI charge and booked on suspicion of arson while in custody.
