PLACER COUNTY, Calif — Placer County officials are sending an urgent call for action ahead of Super Tuesday, as they continue to search for at least 100 poll workers to work in 219 precincts throughout the county.
Volunteers are needed to sign people in, give voters their ballot and help out with other tasks on Election Night. Although it's not required, county officials are asking for bilingual Spanish- and Korean-speaking volunteers to step up to help, too.
"Our Elections Office has an urgent request for more poll workers to help support our democracy during the presidential primary election," said Ryan Ronco, the Placer County Clerk, Recorder and Registrar of Voters. "We hope that residents will consider lending a hand and contact us — volunteering is a great way to make new friends, meet your neighbors and earn some money, too."
Polling places open at 7 a.m. on Election Day and close at 8 that evening.
It’s a long day, but one that county elections manager Phillip Chantri said can be made into a family event.
"I grew up with my mom. She would take the day off of work every year volunteer, serve the polls," Chantri explained. "I would either go with her or go to the polls with my grandparents who worked for 40 years."
To be eligible, poll workers must be citizens registered to vote, legal permanent residents or high school students 16 and up with 2.5 GPA.
The county offers paid training sessions for people hoping to be poll workers.
