The Rocklin Police Department says there are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting Saturday.

The Rocklin Police Department says there are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting Saturday.

According to officials, a Rocklin police officer shot and killed a man who was attempting to burglarize a home.

It happened just after 10 a.m. Saturday along Bradford Place near Wyckford Boulevard. Officals said the armed suspect tried to enter the home and an armed homeowner called 9-1-1 and the man ran out of the house.

Three officers arrived shortly after and located the man outside, that is when shots were fired. Rocklin Police officials can't tell us how many shots were fired or which officers fired their guns killing the man. Sgt. Gilbert Farrulla said this is the first officer involved shooting in the last two years.

Sgt. Farrulla said they do not believe the suspect knew the homeowner and the suspects weapon was found on scene.

The DA's office, Police Department and the sheriffs office are working together in the investigation and they said it will take some time. The department has not said which officers were placed on paid administrative leave.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
