FORESTHILL, Calif. — Foresthill Fire Protection District officials are investigating after a possible lightning strike sparked a house fire Wednesday afternoon.
According to John Nicholini, a spokesperson for the Foresthill Fire Protection District, it happened on the 6100 block of Green Ridge Drive. He says a lightning strike was detected at the location and neighbors reported hearing it too.
Fire crews saw smoke coming from the roof of the home shortly after they arrived.
Nicholini says the fire was in the attic and was isolated to the home. No one was home at the time of the fire and animals were removed by a neighbor.
He says the amount of damage is unclear right now.
ABC10 Meteorologist Carley Gomez says three or four lightning strikes were caught by radar in the Foresthill area between 3:18-3:28 p.m.
