SACRAMENTO, Calif. — An 8-year-old Rancho Cordova boy was killed Sunday afternoon after being hit while standing in the median of Highway 50.
According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Highway 50, east of 65th Street.
CHP says a black Toyota was blocking the fast lane of westbound 50 and the occupants were standing next to the vehicle.
Their preliminary investigation found the child passengers, an 8-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl, exited the Toyota and moved to the center median. CHP says the center median is bordered by concrete k-rails with an opening for construction workers, though there was no active construction at the time of the crash.
