RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Yes, Cordova High School students do lift.
Cordova High School (CHS) on Chase Drive in Rancho Cordova hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this month to celebrate the opening of its newly renovated weight room, according to a Folsom Cordova Unified School District post on Facebook.
The project was funded by both the FCUSD and the Rancho Cordova Community Enhancement and Investment Fund, the post said.
Students first advocated for the weight room renovations at an FCUSD board meeting in 2023.
Oscar Isaac Sanchez, a CHS student, spoke at the ceremony. He said without the FCUSD and the city of Rancho Cordova, the weight room would not have been possible.
“A strong mind creates a strong body and a strong body creates a strong mind,” Sanchez said.
Peter Maroon is the FCUSD’s athletic director. He said the weight is for all students who take physical education classes at CHS.
“Our students with special needs have access to the facility with a lot more equipment that applies to their specific needs,” Maroon said.
